Great plants for indoor living

Indoor plants not only make a stylish addition to your home, they clean up the air and improve productivity. And you don’t even need to be a green-fingered guru to keep them alive and kicking. In fact, some of the best even thrive on being totally ignored. Confused about what works where? This is for you.

Low light lovers

Even the darkest of corners can still be a place to call home. Try the resilient Snake plant for a statement piece that needs very little watering. These strong beautiful leaves have a rich green colour and are great for removing air pollutants. Try some Devil’s Ivy for a pretty trailing plant that can survive all lighting conditions, or the hardy Cast Iron that grows in all conditions. The lower the light, the less water required. Too easy!

Sunseekers

Whilst most plants need some sunlight to survive, too much can have a deadly effect. Jade plants (or money plants) love to bask in the direct sun, and they actually enjoy a decent stretch between watering. Croton plants also thrive in a sunny spot. Available in a range of bright colours, they get very attached to their space and will drop leaves if relocated. Try Kalanchoes for a flowering succulent, or any type of Cacti for the ultimate in sun-loving self-sufficient house plants.

Leave well alone

If you want all the benefits of indoor greenery with the minimum amount of effort, try the hardy Zanzibar Gem for starters. Thriving in low light, they use water stored in their roots to keep themselves hydrated. Or check out the Tillandsia for a plant that’s so low maintenance, it doesn’t even need a pot. These air plants absorb moisture from the environment and are used to surviving in all kinds of challenging conditions. It just doesn’t get any better.
