Spring, in particular September, is the best time of year to see the Aurora Australis, otherwise called the Southern Lights. Similar to the Aurora Borealis of the Northern Hemisphere, the Aurora Australis is created when the sun releases massive bursts of solar wind and magnetic fields into space, creating a spectacular light show in the sky.
With vantage points all over Australia, information can be found online. Arguably though, the best place to view the phenomenon is Tasmania. If you’re on the mainland, it may be a good time to book a holiday!
